Most regions in Europe will soon (or already) face at least one of the following phenomena: a shortage of care workers, rural depopulation, and increasing social isolation.

The latest FutuRes Policy Brief, published in February 2025, presents 4 steps to demographic resilience on the local level.

In this Briefing, four high-level policymakers recommend best-practices:

  1. Advance the local care sector
  2. Show accountability, build trust, prevent polarisation
  3. Create a local demographic strategy
  4. Counter depopulation effectively
