In the first talk on November 19, Elena Bastianelli presented on the “democratisation of divorce”, which opens up new possibilities of social dynamics. Divorce democratisation creates a need for new needs in parents and children. Specifically: the need for support for economic hardship in phases of single parenthood; conflict resolution; destigmatisation of the divorce experience for children.

The audience discussed policy options such as involving NGOs to administer such services; competitions for NGO projects providing essential services for children and parents experiencing divorce; access to comprehensive assistance near their place of residence; group counseling; self-help groups; mediation.
